{"id":83,"date":"2020-12-22T16:53:13","date_gmt":"2020-12-22T16:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.scube.co\/outreach\/?p=83"},"modified":"2020-12-23T16:12:16","modified_gmt":"2020-12-23T16:12:16","slug":"donation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.scube.co\/outreach\/2020\/12\/22\/donation\/","title":{"rendered":"Donation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the United States, in 2007, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bureau_of_Labor_Statistics\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>&nbsp;found that American households in the lowest fifth in terms of wealth, gave on average a higher percentage of their incomes to charitable organizations than those households in the highest fifth.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donation#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charity_Navigator\">Charity Navigator<\/a>&nbsp;writes that, according to Giving USA, Americans gave $298 billion in 2011 (about 2% of GDP).<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donation#cite_note-CNGiving-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;The majority of donations were from individuals (73%), then from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bequests\">bequests<\/a>&nbsp;(about 12%), foundations (2%) and less than 1% from corporations. The largest sector to receive donations was religious organizations (32%), then education (13%). Giving has increased in 3 out of 4 years since 1971 (with the occasional declines occurring around recession years).<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donation#cite_note-CNGiving-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n<!--noteaser-->\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blackbaud\">Blackbaud<\/a>&nbsp;reports that, in the US, online giving in 2012 grew by 11% on a year-over-year basis. The percentage of total&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fundraising\">fundraising<\/a>&nbsp;that comes from online giving was about 7% in 2012. This was an increase from 6% in 2011 and is nearing the record level of 8% from 2010 when online giving spiked in response to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2010_Haiti_earthquake\">Haitian earthquake<\/a>&nbsp;relief efforts.
